Pass it Around
"If I made records for my own pleasure, I would only record Charley Patton songs." - Bob Dylan
Defeating the Purpose of Copyright. Dylan Blows it and Sony Blows
My opinion on the limited release of early Dylan material just to retain copyright rights? Easy...
The release defeats the purpose of copyright. Dylan HIMSELF benefited greatly by access to recordings whose copyright had expired...some to the point of virtual replication. So to have those operating on his behalf, presumably, to deny copyright free access to young musicians who might learn from and benefit from the recordings, as Dylan certainly did from his idols...is unfortunate and greed. Plain and simple greed.
This was a mistake, a naked grab which shouldn't have happened.
